Shale shaker screens are a part of drilling equipment used in many industries, such as coal cleaning, mining, oil and gas drilling. These screens are considered to be the first phase of a solids control system on a drilling rig. They are used to purify the liquid by removing large solids also called cuttings from the drilling fluid.
This processes minimizes fluid loss and is helps lessen the environmental impact of the process. Shaker screen is the primary solids separation tool on a rig. After returning to the surface of the well the used drilling fluid flows directly to the shale shakers where it begins to be processed.

Once processed by the shale shakers the drilling fluid is deposited into the mud tanks where other solid control equipment begin to remove the finer solids from it. The solids removed by the shale shaker are discharged out of the discharge port into a separate holding tank where they await further treatment or disposal.

In oil & gas drilling, shaker screens are used not only on shale shaker, but also desander, desilter and mud cleaner to separate the solids in the drilling fluids. In different period, people invented different types of shaker screens, such as conventional flat screen, corrugation screens, and with square meshes, hexagonal meshes, diamond meshes, etc. And different geological condition may require different ability and type of shaker screens. But in different times, people used different ways to describe the ability of screens.

The shaker screen is equipped on the basket of shale shaker, with three or four pieces screen panels, while the screen basket is driven by two sets of vibration motors which are mounted on the top of shale shaker with synchronization and contrary rotation. There exists one piece of eccentric block in the vibration motor. When motor works, the eccentric block also rotate. As there are two sets of vibration motors working synchronized, at some point, the vibration force that generated by the eccentric blocks is sum of these two blocks effect force. While at some point, the vibration force of motors would be zero.
