Effect of drilling fluids in drilling industry

Drilling fluid is used to aid the drilling of boreholes into the earth. Often used while drilling oil and natural gas wells and on exploration drilling rigs, drilling fluids are also used for much simpler boreholes.
Drilling mud solids control equipment is used in a drilling operation in which that fluid is circulated or pumped from the surface, down the drilling string through the bit and back to the surface via the annulus, such as shale shaker, decanter centrifuge, mud cleaner, etc. Drilling fluids system satisfy many needs in their capacity to do the following below:
1.suspend cuttings or drilling solids, remove them from the bottom of the hole and the well bore and release them at the surface.
2.control formation pressure and maintain well bore stability.
3.seal permeable formations
4.cool,lubricate and support the drilling assembly
5.transmit hydraulic energy to tools and bits
6.minimize reservoir damage
7.permit adequate formation evaluation
8.control corrosion
9.facilitate cementing and completion
10.minimize impact on the environment
11.inhibit gas hydrate formation

The most critical function that a drilling fluids system performs is to minimize the concentration of cuttings around the drill bit and throughout the well bore. Of course,in so doing, the fluid itself assumes this cuttings burden, and if the cuttings are not removed from the fluid,it very quickly loses its ability to clean the hole and create thick filter cakes. To enable on site recycling and reuse of the drilling fluid, cuttings must be continually efficiently removed. The complete drilling solids control system can effectively remove the solids and particles in drilling fluid.

Solutions to common problems of decanter centrifuge

The decanter centrifuge has been widely applied in drilling fluids solids control system. Due to the high rotation speed provided by decanter centrifuge, if any abnormal situation happed in use, stop running and check for solution immediately.
Solutions to common problems of decanter centrifuge:
Problem 1: excessive vibration of decanter centrifuge.
Reasons and solutions:
1. The solids particles settled in bowl have not been cleaned thoroughly--clean it.
2. Defective shock absorber--change it for new one.
Problem 2: overtemperature of bearings. (above 75℃)
Reasons and solutions:
1. Lack of lubricating oil--oiling the bearings.
2. Wear of bearings--change the damaged bearings.
Problem 3: the bowl doesn’t work when the main motor is activated.
Reasons and solutions:
Main motor overload for excessive solids particles set in--clean the bowl and adjust the grout intake.
Problem 4: abnormal noise is heard from bowl.
Reasons and solutions:
1. unsuitable usage of lubricating oil, such as improper oil type or volume--check and adopt suitable oil.
2. bearings damaged--change for new ones.
Problem 5: clean mud flows out of discharge outlet.
Reasons and solutions:

Excessive slurry supply--adjust slurry inlet valve.

Ways to avoid decanter centrifuge stoppages as much as possible

How do we avoid decanter centrifuge stoppages as much as possible? Among drilling mud solids control equipment, it plays a key role in solids control system.
1. Minimize the need for gears or belts to drive the centrifuge.
2. Control and maintain speed during the decanting process.
3. Develop high torque at very low speeds.
4. Two motor applications, one for the bowl and one for the scroll.
5. The bowl has a very high-reflected inertia.
6. The scroll is usually in continuous regeneration, as it runs at a slower speed than the bowl and is pulled along.
7. Torque limiting on the scroll is very important.
8. Some configurations require zero-speed operation of the scroll ( differential gearbox ).
9. Dynamic braking or regenerative modules may be required if the bowl is NOT driven by a drive.

10. Explosion-proof environments.
