Shale
shaker is a vital component of drilling
fluid processing system in many industries, such as coal cleaning, mining,
oil and gas drilling. They are considered to be the first phase of a solids
control system on a drilling rig, they are used to remove large solids also
called cuttings from the drilling fluid, more commonly called "Mud" due to its
similar appearance.
After returning to the surface of the well, the used drilling fluid flows
directly to the shale shakers where it begins to be processed. Once processed by
the shale shakers the drilling fluid is deposited into the mud tanks where other
solid
control equipment begin to remove the finer solids from it. The solids
removed by the shale shaker are discharged out of the discharge port into a
separate holding tank where they await further treatment or disposal.
The shaker
screen is equipped on the basket of shale shaker, with three or four pieces
screen panels, while the screen basket is driven by two sets of vibration motors
which are mounted on the top of shale shaker with synchronization and contrary
rotation. There exists one piece of eccentric block in the vibration motor. When
motor works, the eccentric block also rotate. As there are two sets of vibration
motors working synchronized, at some point, the vibration force that generated
by the eccentric blocks is sum of these two blocks effect force. While at some
point, the vibration force of motors would be zero.
When the viscosity of the drilling fluids increase, shale shaker process
capacity would be reduced; while when the density of the drilling fluids
increase, shale shaker capacity would also enhance. That is because when the
drilling fluids flow onto the screen, the enhanced density would place some
pressure on the screen, pushing the drilling fluids permeating the screen more
quickly.
